Swanage Railway 'Strictly Bulleid 2 Gala' 8th and 9th June 2024
Out along the Swanage Railway to see the large bulleid pacific gather since last time that was in steam days in the 1960s. the Line up consist of two Merchant Navy, two rebuild Light Pacific and four un-rebuild pacific

That took me back! Short lived maybe, but deeply etched on my memory, following on from Kings, Castles, Halls, Manors & other sundry Collett Steam 4-6-0s. Onward to yesterday!

But why did it need, what appears to be, a diesel engine at the rear?
Primarily, to provide electricity to run the kitchen and other creature comforts that you'd expect from a premier dining train. Secondly, to provide insurance to prevent avoidable delay.
